Two gems and ‘Diamond’ of Zico

Two gems and ‘Diamond’ of Zico

Similar to Atletico de Kolkata last evening FC Goa glittered like gold and top of that coach Zico had two uncut Diamond like Mandar Rao Desai and Romeo Fernandez. Now Romeo is more confident and mature after having played in Brasilian Club Atletico Paranease.  I think Goa is another strong contender to chase ISL winning dream. They played with an authority that did not allow any space to penetrate Florent Malouda, Arne Riisa or to young Adil Nabi.  Marquee Roberto Carlos was in dual responsibility as a Coach and Player for Delhi Dynamos, and we saw glimpse of his class when he took a long ranger free kick, the only time Goan Goalkeeper Andrade was slightly beaten. From the very first minute Zico’s men pounced on Delhi. As a result, FC Goa earned the lead at the 3rd minute of the match. From Romeo’s grounder cross beating four Delhi defenders went to Mandar like ‘a knife in the butter’. Such a lovely understanding and goal from a quality move. Sadly match officials adjudged the goal as an own goal by Souvik Chakraborty.

We saw the strategy of legend Zico how he outplayed Delhi.  Back four were well covered by the two blocker, Denson Devdas and Jofre, which hardly gave any open space to Delhi in attacking third. It reminds me “Diamond” system by the famous coach Amal Dutta. Young Sanjiban impressed all; this lad got an opportunity to be part of ISL just 48 hours prior to this game. And gladly he has utilised every bit of it by winning the “Emerging Player of the Match”  Sanjiban was playing at this level for the first time and showed his maturity.

Debabrata Roy was simply excellent as a silent worker, he reminded me, the class of Deepak Mondal. We could see the experience and nice sense of positioning in Debabrata.
